The Seam Work is an independent publication launched in October 2026 by Melissa Cardenas-Dow.
The Seam Work is where I publish romantic fiction. Mostly love stories, told quietly, about people who show what they feel well before they can say it.
A seam is where two pieces are joined, the place where you can see how a thing was made.
The stories are gathered into four collections:
The Inner Yard. A romance set in a world built from late 18th Dynasty Egypt. Imila, an attendant to the Great Royal Wife, and Khenti, a palace guard, meet again and again across different versions of their world.
The Hearth-Rooms. Love stories set in World of Warcraft, with original characters.
The Window Seat. Stories set in World of Warcraft with its own characters and places.
The Green Room. Modern love stories about people who play a role, caught in the moment before they go on.
The World of Warcraft stories are non-commercial fan fiction. Azeroth belongs to Blizzard Entertainment. The people I put in it are mine.
Back of the House has stories of the people on this site. Relaxed, on break, commenting on their work and lives.
I'm Melissa Cardenas-Dow. By day, I'm an academic librarian and researcher, and much of my academic musings and writings live at MiscEtcetera and Kiting Through Kalimdor. This is where the other half of my writing goes.
