The Gilded Cell
When Lord Carrow flees to Booty Bay and his son disappears into Old Town, Lady Imogen Carrow is left under house arrest in a half-emptied house on Cathedral Square, with three servants and a Royal Guardsman, Garrick Tolliver, from Redridge. The Square has stopped sending cards and invitations. Her only caller is Magistrate Selwyn Pryce, a kind and rising man who has read all her letters and would like very much to marry her. But a packet of family ledgers is still missing, and the men in grey coats who want it back are not entirely men.
Set in the City of Stormwind, in the years of the Defias Brotherhood rising, while Lady Katrana Prestor still held court and the stonemasons who rebuilt the city after the Second War waited on wages that never came. A slow-burn romance about what it costs to stop being handled, and to choose with your own hands, in daylight. Part of The Hearth-Rooms collection of stories.
